Lyn Clearihan

MBBS, GradDip Family Medicine, MFM (Clin), FRACGP

Dr Lyn Clearihan has consulted at her family medical practice in Mt Evelyn, Victoria for the past twenty-one years and values the opportunities that community medicine has offered in being able to learn at a grassroots level, the differences that effective primary care can make.

Having completed Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery degrees (MBBS) in 1976, Lyn gained Fellowship to the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 1986, and continued to extend her academic and clinical interests by achieving a Graduate Diploma in Family Medicine in 1996, and a Master of Family Medicine (Clinical) in 2002.

Lyn is currently enrolled in a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD) and is seeking to develop an instrument to 'objectify' the editorial decision making process and assess its impact on the publication process in primary health care.

In addition to her clinical career, Lyn also teaches medical journalism to undergraduate students and works with GP registrars in a mentoring capacity as a Senior Lecturer in the Monash University Department of General Practice.

Lyn is currently co-editor of the Asia Pacific Family Medicine Journal following her involvement with the Australian Family Physician from 1989 to 2001, where after six years of fine-tuning her editorial skills, Lyn became editor.

As peer reviewer on two international journals - The Lancet and Family Practice, Lyn also has membership on a number of medical organizations, including the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME) and its Committee of Publication Ethics (COPE).

Lyn has written many medical articles and two book chapters and regularly contributes at workshops for effective medical writing and reviewing, both in Australia and overseas.
