Tony Walker is a qualified Intensive Care
Paramedic with over 19 years experience in both Metropolitan
and Rural Operations. He is currently employed as the Manager
Operations - Clinical and Education Services with Rural
Ambulance Victoria where he is responsible for the learning,
development and clinical practice for over 1400 Intensive
Care and ambulance paramedics and volunteers throughout
rural and regional Victoria.
Tony's interests include paramedic education and research,
community based flexible service delivery models and enhancing
the provision of pre-hospital care in rural and remote areas.
He is currently involved in a number of research projects
including those examining the role of Rapid Sequence Intubation
in severe head injury, Intranasal Fentanyl in pain relief
and pre-hospital thrombolysis in reducing call-to-needle
times for ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction.
Tony holds an adjunct appointment as Associate Professor,
Paramedic Sciences in the School of Health Sciences at Victoria
University and currently chairs both the Australian College
of Ambulance Professionals (Victorian Branch) and Australian
Resuscitation Council (Victorian Branch). He is a member
of a number of peak committees, including the Rural Ambulance
Victoria and Metropolitan Ambulance Service Medical Standards
Committees, Convention of Ambulance Authorities Clinical
and Education Committees, Victorian State Trauma Committee
and National Heart Foundation Acute Coronary Syndrome Guideline
Working Group.
In 2005 Tony was awarded the Ambulance Service Medal in
the Australia Day Honours for his contribution to the development
and provision of ambulance services.
