Brian Jolly is Director, Centre for Medical and Health
Sciences Education, Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health
Sciences, Monash University. Previously he was Professor
of Medical Education, University of Sheffield, UK. He studied
psychology at Birmingham University, UK, before graduate
studies in educational film and television production in
Manchester. In 1979 he joined St Bartholomew's Hospital
Medical College and developed the Academic Unit of Medical
& Dental Education. In 1988 he was a visiting professor
in medical education at the University of Toronto. His PhD,
from Maastricht University, involved work on clinical teaching.
He was the foundation Chairman of the Education Committee
of the General Osteopathic Council from 1995-2001. From
1996-1999 he was Director of the Medical Education Unit,
University of Leeds Medical School and Senior Warden, Devonshire
Hall, Leeds.
His current interests include assessment, clinical teaching,
clinical skills development and the development of research
initiatives in health professions education. He is also
Academic Director of the Monash Graduate Certificate in
Health Professional Education.
Married to Mary Lawson, with one daughter Grace (4 on 31/5/2002),
his other interests include cooking, water sports, gardening,
watching association football, tennis and cricket - contributing
to the Barmy Army road show when required.
