Dr. Geert Seynaeve, is a Medical Doctor
(University of Leuven - KUL, 1982), with a Masters Postgraduate
Degree in Public Health (University of Brussels - VUB, 1994).
Commencing his medical career as a Junior
Researcher at the University of Leuven, Department of Biochemistry
and Experimental Surgery (KUL), Dr. Seynaeve has been involved
in a number of medical and scientific research projects
over the years which have expanded his interest in Industrial
Toxicology and Environmental Health, and have led to further
specialisation as a registered (certified) Specialist in
Occupational Health and Safety, where Dr. Seynaeve continues
to work for a number of scientific research institutions.
As Medical Project Officer for a number of NGOs Dr. Seynaeve
has been on humanitarian relief missions to the Middle East
(1984-1985), Central America (1985-1990), South Africa,
Namibia, Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of Congo (1990-1998).
Commencing as Public Health Officer at
the Ministry of Health, Belgium in July 1998, Dr. Seynaeve
has held the position of Chief Medical Officer for the Emergency
Medical Services (CMO-EMS) since November 2002.
Dr. Seynaeve is a Board Member of a variety
of Humanitarian and Scientific NGOs, in addition to being
a member of the European Core Group on Disaster Medicine,
DG Environment of the EU Commission; the European Society
for Disaster Medicine, and Chairman of the Education Committee
- World Association for Disaster and Emergency Medicine.
